Reviews: P90X Teaser & 30 Day Shred, Level 2

April 26, 2009

100596241_tpThis weekend was all about fitness, and in a good, healthy way — not an excessive way.

The weather was so-so, and I didn’t want to spend as much time as usual at the gym, so I was super-happy to hit the gym moderately and have home options, too.

When my hubby and I were out shopping Saturday (after he took the second of his three finals — he’s almost done with this semester) I stocked up on lighter (5 lb) weights, a yoga mat and resistance bands (pictured to the left) so I could do my first session of P90X — Core Synergistics.

I’m following the “Lean” plan, which seems to be more suited to women, but we’ll see if I don’t end up switching to the Classic track, or kind of mixing the two — I’m curious about the Plyometrics DVD which isn’t used for the Lean Plan, and I do so much cardio on my own, that I’m not sure I will do the Cardio X DVD very often, though I need to give it a try tomorrow.

Bottom line, I will do a full review once I’ve done six sessions, but so far, I’m liking it! Tony Horton is a bit dorky, but so cute, too. And I like how, as with the Shred, there are different fitness levels represented by his assistants. And their bodies are all enviable to me — taut, fit, lean, muscular.

I struggled with quite a few of the moves — particularly push-up-related — but overall, I liked it and will give the program a shot.

Now, on to the 30 Day Shred, Level 2.

After doing Level 1 for five days, I felt ready to move on to Level 2 and I have to say, this workout was awesome!

I got my heart rate up higher than Level 1, and having the 5 lb. weights really helped me focus on my form, whereas the 8s were just too heavy for some of the moves.

Jillian just knows how to whip it, and I like how it’s a short but effective 20-minute workout. PX90 is going to be a big time commitment; this is not as big a commitment, time-wise.

So we’ll see how things go as I get underway with P90X.

One thing I certainly don’t want is to get into an over-exercising mentality, but I do like knowing I have these options (and equipment) at home. I feel armed and ready for anything!
