To Korea or Not to Korea?!

A few months ago I talked about my need to cut down my Diet Coke consumption with the goal of saving money to go visit my brother in South Korea.

While I’ve cut back quite a bit (yea!), sadly, my savings account isn’t much more padded than it was in October (mostly due to the holidays and a plane ticket to N.J. that set me back some).

But all hope is not lost. (more…)

Taco Bell … REALLY?

To quote Seth Meyers and Amy Poheler’s hilarious segment on Saturday Night Live, Taco Bell’s newest ad campaign deserves a big fat “REALLY?”

While I fully support companies offering healthier fare– and even promoting it as healthier fare — I agree with Roni and Steph that this Taco Bell’s Drive-Thru “Diet” is a load of CRAP. Even calling it a “diet” just kills me!

First of all, promoting fast food as a way to successfully lose weight is ridiculous. (Did anyone else see Supersize Me?! Of course he wasn’t trying to lose weight but look at the destruction he caused his body!)

There is simply nothing healthy about eating fast food all the time, period. Maybe it’s fine once in a while, but encouraging anyone to consider eating it regularly is just insane. (more…)

Attaching a Goal to a Mantra

Me this weekend, ready for the challenge!!

Piggybacking off today’s previous post …

So my SELF subscription still hasn’t run out yet, which means I’m still reading each issue I get.

Though I loathe the magazine editor’s ‘tude (and find her lame excuses pitiful) following the Kelly Clarkson cover debacle in September, I genuinely like the content of SELF and, in fact, came across another great article yesterday that both rejuvenated and inspired me to get back on the healthy wagon and stay there.

I can’t find the article online, but it was basically little journal entries of a woman’s journey as she lost 28 lbs. over the course of a year.

Reading her words — including her ups and downs — reminded me so much of my own journey, and of my former self … the dedicated dieter who attempted weight loss just once and it worked like a charm. (more…)

Dealing With Disappointment

After every major event I’ve planned — be it for work (a press conference, a symposium, a meeting) … or for fun (a party, my wedding, a vacation), following the immediate high of said momentous occasion/event, there’s always that immediate feeling of OK … now what?!

I think that’s part of being one of those people who is always looking four steps ahead and struggles (as I’ve acknowledged here many times) with being content “in the moment” and not looking beyond it towards something else.

The holidays for me are another “event” — and though this year was different in that we weren’t with immediate family or travel anywhere, I still feel that unsettling sense of  “OK, now what?”

Couple this temporary lapse into a depression (which many people experience this time of year) with disappointment in myself (a result of my tighter-than-I’d-like-them-to-be jeans and WAY too many sweets) and you very well *could* have recipe for disaster.

But in spite of this, I actually don’t feel like I’m headed into disaster territory right now – and here’s why. (more…)

Holy YUM

Not my pic, but I love it!

I love, love, love oatmeal and eat it nearly every morning for breakfast.

With all the variations out there, I’m never bored and there’s nothing like it, especially in the chilly fall/winter months.

To get in the holiday spirit, this morning I decided to add a splash of Silk Nog (which I yapped about here last year) into a packet of Quaker High Fiber Maple & Brown Sugar oatmeal for a quickie breakfast.

Oh my LORD was this a heavenly, creamy combo of deliciousness! (more…)

Random Musings and Merry Christmas Wishes

Me last Christmas break @ Thomas Sweets, my fave fro-yo place in D.C. Man I miss my city!

Merry Christmas, everyone — happy holidays!!

We are going to the Chicago ‘burbs to spend time with my hubby’s extended family.

Tonight I made my beloved Oreo balls (and aside from some chocolate chips, all I tasted was the corner of one — which I froze in a baggie to have later).

I hope they like them — they have two kids and I figure kids will eat anything with chocolate, right?!

I know I sound like a broken record here but instead of journaling tonight in my personal journal, I’m blogging (more…)

Me & Chex Mix = :(

(Note: no photo/image on purpose … must avoid this crack at all costs!)

Chex mix and I have a VERY abusive relationship.

The past few weeks, for reasons unbeknown to me, I’ve been ridiculously buying Chex mix (cheddar, honey nut, or most recently — the special edition cocoa!).

Chex mix which doesn’t fill me, is a waste of calories/Points, and leaves me always wanting more. I think it should be called Crack mix. (more…)
